Kashmir Vigilance books 25 govt officials

Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Organisation today booked 25 government officials, including 13 engineers, in Leh district for purchasing sub-standard and underweight material, causing a loss of Rs 46.72 lakh to the state exchequer.
A case under different sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and Ranbir Panel Code was filed against two superintending engineers, six executive engineers, five assistant executive engineers, five storekeepers, four head clerks, three assistant accounts officers of PWD (Roads and Buildings) circle Leh, Special sub-Division, Khaltsi, Roads and Buildings Division Leh, Special sub-division Nyoma and construction division Leh and Irrigation and Flood Control, a spokesman of the SVO said.
The officials allegedly hatched a criminal conspiracy with suppliers for the purchase of sub-standard and under-weight knitted crate mesh, causing loss to the state exchequer to the tune of Rs 46.72 lakhs, the spokesman said.
"On the basis of the allegations, a case has been registered and investigation started," the spokesman added.
