India ace shuttler Parupalli Kashyap today pulled out of the season-opening USD 600,000 Korea Open Super Series next year due to a shoulder injury sustained last week.
The World Number 14 Indian said he withdrew his entry from Korea Open (Jan 7-12) as he needed time to completely heal and compete at the highest level again.
"I partially dislocated my shoulder while playing last week. My physio is with me and he is strapping it tightly. It has not healed yet. May be, in another week it should be fine. But I withdrew from Korea today," Kashyap told PTI.
However, the 27-year-old said he would be playing in Malaysia Open Super Series Premier (Jan 14-19) and India Grand Prix Gold (Jan 21-26) next month.
"I could not practice for few days after the injury but I hope to get back to training soon once it is completely healed. I want to play Malaysia and India Open," he said.
Kashyap broke new grounds this year becoming only the second Indian shuttler after Pullela Gopichand to break into the top 10 of world rankings.
The former World No.6 is currently defending his title in the individual men's singles event of the Senior Nationals after skipping the team event.
"Nationals is an important tournament and I am the defending champion. I will try to give my best," said the Commonwealth Games bronze medallist.
