Kathua farmers asked to cultivate 'cash crops'

The department of horticulture in Kathua has advised farmers in the district to adopt cultivation of "cash crops" like strawberries, as the area has enormous potential for such crops.
Horticulture Development Officer, Barnoti, Sandeep Gupta interacted with farmers and fruit growers of Kathua district yesterday and briefed them about various schemes of the department presently under implementation in the area.
"He advised the farmers to adopt cultivation of cash crops like strawberry which has enormous potential in the area," an official spokesperson said, adding, "He urged them to keep close liaison with the field functionaries to be aware about the latest programmes of the department."

Gupta along with field staff also inspected the orchards grown by the Department in the area and issued on spot instructions for their better upkeep on scientific lines so that fruit growers can avail maximum quality production.
