Kedarnath: Officials to be separately assigned reconstruction

Officials in Uttarakhand will be separately assigned the task of implementing reconstruction projects worth Rs 700 crore announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kedarnath recently.
Chief Secretary S Ramaswamy held an inter-departmental meeting at his office today and asked heads of the departments involved to deploy officials with the exclusive responsibility of implementing the projects to ensure their speedy execution.
He also directed them to constantly monitor and review their progress so that the process of their construction does not slow down, an official release here said.
During his visit to the Himalayan shrine on October 20, Modi laid the foundation stones of five reconstruction projects at Kedarpuri worth Rs 700 crore.
They included creation of improved facilities for devotees, construction of retaining walls and ghats at Mandakini and Saraswati rivers, widening of the approach road to the shrine, rebuilding the Adi Guru Shankaracharya's grave (samadhi) which was devastated in 2013 flashfloods besides constructing a museum about the 8th century seer.
The ghats would be built by the irrigation department while the approach road to the temple would be constructed by the tourism development department. Other departments concerned would be involved in enhancing basic facilities like electricity, water and roads around the temple keeping up its original grandeur.
