Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today accused the BJP and the RSS of "communalising" the road rage incident, which resulted in death of a 40-year-old dentist Pankaj Narang in Vikapuri area.
The Aam Aadmi Party also demanded that those attempting to "vitiate the atmosphere" using social media should be booked for spreading communal hatred. The party alleged that Narang also tried to call up the police control room and said there is lack of proper police patrolling, particularly at night hours.
"Utterly shameful n disgusting dat BJP/RSS tryng 2 communlise unfortunat murder of Dr Narang. Ppl want peace, not hatred (Sic)," Kejriwal tweeted.
AAP also lauded Additional DCP (West) Monika Bhardwaj for coming forward to quell rumours related to the case which could have created communal tension in the areas.
"Proud of such police officers for bringing truth out and thwarting attempts by some people to give it communal color," Kejriwal tweeted.
Since yesterday, social media was abuzz with rumours that people from a certain community, who were alleged to be migrants from Bangladesh, were involved in the murder of Narang.
The BJP hit back alleging that it was a "pre-planned murder". They also asked why Kejriwal has not visited the residence of Dr Narang so far.
In a shocking incident, the 40-year-old dentist was dragged out of his house and beaten to death with bats, iron roads and hockey sticks by a group of 12 people following an argument over a bike grazing the doctor's child on Wednesday night.
"It is a matter of grave concern that incidents of road rage are assuming dangerous proportion in Delhi. The midnight murder of Dr Prashant Narang in Vikaspuri raises very serious questions. It has been reported that the deceased doctor tried to call up the police control room van following his reported argument with two scooter-borne youth.
"The Aam Aadmi Party strongly condemns the attempts by the BJP and the affiliates of the Sangh Pariwar to communalise this entire incident. The individuals associated with fringe right-wing organizations, that had earlier also tried to create trouble in the heart of Delhi are making desperate attempt to give a communal colour to this criminal act.
"We demand that those behind spreading rumours to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere through the use of social media platforms and word of mouth should be immediately booked for trying to create communal tension," the party said.
