Kejriwal against using pvt schools for afternoon shift for
Press Trust of India New Delhi Ruing the "atrocity on children" who are forced to go to school in the afternoon, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said that his government would open an adequate number of schools to cater to the demand instead of using the infrastructure of private schools during the second shift.
"We discussed the matter in the Cabinet. Government schools work in double shift while the private ones work in a single shift. There were suggestions to use private schools for holding a second shift for government students.
"But, before doing this, we need to understand the biological cycle of students," he said at the National Conference and Annual Session of the Confederation of Indian Industry.
"Students get up in the morning and go to school. In the afternoon, they come back, have lunch and sleep and then go to play in the evening and do their homework. We have reversed the cycle for afternoon students. In the morning, they play and go to school at 2 P.M. I think this is an atrocity on poor children and is unjustified," he said.
He also admitted that there was a difference of opinion within the Delhi Cabinet over the issue.
At the meet today, the Delhi chief minister assured that he would take the education sector forward.
"We will open as many schools for the children, but we will not differentiate between poor and rich students. We will give same education and right to poor students. They should have the same biological cycle," he said.
Kejriwal also stressed that his government is drawing up schemes for utilising private school playgrounds for children and sportspersons in the city.
