Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia today congratulated the family of Olympic bronze-winning wrestler Sakshi Malik, whose father is an employee of the Delhi Transport Corporation.
Kejriwal took to Twitter to congratulate Sakshi, who at 23 has become the first woman wrestler from India to win an Olympic medal, hailing her for making the "whole nation proud".
A government spokesperson said Sisodia called up Sakshi's family and congratulated her father and mother. Sakshi is the fourth female athlete from India to win an Olympic medal.
"Congratulations to#SakshiMalik &her family on winning a Medal. Congratulated her father who is working in DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation)," Transport Minister Satyender Jain tweeted.
Last night, Sakshi ended the country's wait for a medal at the Rio Olympic Games by clinching the bronze in the 58kg category, pulling off a sensational 8-5 victory over her rival in the play-off bout.
