Kerala Police Chief T P Sen Kumar today cautioned about the increasing instances of narcotic smuggling through courier services and asked the courier and parcel service operators to install scanners to check the movement of contrabands.
Smuggling of drugs through courier companies, with or without their knowledge, is a great threat to the society and stern action would be taken against the operators if they were found failed to check the menace, DGP T P Sen Kumar said in his official Facebook page.
"Section 149 of CrPC enables police to take necessary action to prevent such cognizable offences. Courier and parcel operators should ensure themselves that such contrabands especially narcotic substances are not ferried through their service," Sen Kumar said.
"The operators should install scanners to find out and check its movement. If they are found liable in any smuggling related offences, cases would be registered against the MD/CMD or directors of the concerned company," the officer said.
The DGP said district police chiefs had been instructed to give necessary directions to courier and parcel operators in this regard.
