Ker sizzles as heat wave continues

Heat wave conditions in Kerala are likely to prevail, especially in Palakkad, which has so far recorded the highest temperature and Kozhikode districts.
An advisory from the IMD today said peopleshould be careful while venturing out between 11 AM to 3 PM.
Yesterday, two persons -- 50-year-old Damodaran, a daily wage worker who was building a bund in Kuttiyadi river, collapsed and died and 80 year-old Cheriya Raman, who was walking on the road collapsed and died of suspected sunstroke.
While Palakaad recorded 40.7 degrees Celsius today, in Kozhikode it was 38.3 degrees Celsius, Kannur 38.2 degrees Celsius, while in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram it was 35.0 celsius, IMD sources said.
Heat wave conditions prevailed at isolated places in Kerala and rain occurred in some places.
While Vaikkom in Kottayam recorded heavy rains (8 cms) last night, Piravom in Ernakulam recorded 5 cm and Konni3 cms.
In Thiruvananthapuram, the District Collector has ordered that no schools should function till May 20 due to the prevailing heat conditions.
