Kerala-born NYPD cop felicitated

A Kerala-born officer in the New York Police Department (NYPD) has been felicitated for his role in helping the Indian-American community in times of need.
Captain Stanley George, the highest-ranking police officer in NYPD, was felicitated at a function organised by several Indian-American associations.
George has been an NYPD captain for the last seven years.
He was first assigned as captain to the prestigious Manhattan South Command and subsequently selected to command the newly formed Court Monitoring Group in the Internal Affairs Bureau.
Prior to his promotion to captain he also was assigned to the elite Counter Terrorism Bureau in addition to other demanding assignments within the department.
George became an officer in 1992 and was promoted to a sergeant in 2000, a lieutenant in 2003 and a captain in 2007.

He remains the only Indian-American captain in the NYPD.
George studied in Kumili town in Kerala and migrated to the US with his parents - VS George and Rebecca George - in 1983.
After his degree from Baruch College in New York City, he started his career as an accountant in the NYPD before joining the Police Academy in 1992 to become a uniformed officer.
Former President APJ Abdul Kalam also honoured him with a citation.
