Kerala cartoonist Thomas Antony has won an international award, in the best caricature category.

Antony, currently working as Executive Artist of Malayalam daily 'Metro Vaartha', is among the nine winners at the 13th edition of the World Press Cartoon awards, instituted by an organisation based in Lisbon, Portugal.

The awards are given to the best works published in 2017 in newspapers and magazines from around the world.

According to World Press Cartoon website, the winners are from eight countries in three continents-- Europe, Asia and South America.

Antony is the lone cartoonist selected from Asia selected for the prize.

The award-winning cartoons, as well as other works on display, address the most present characters and issues of 2017, like US President Donald Trump, fake news and freedom of expression, the World Press Cartoon said.

The awards will be presented at a function to be held in Portugal on June 2, Antony said in a release here.
