In a message, Vijjayan said Sindhu had made the whole countryproud by winning the first silver medalin RioOlympics.
21-year old Sindhu went down fighting against Spain's Carolina Marin and settled for a silver medal in the women's singles badminton competition today.
Vijayan also said the achievements of Sindhu, wrestler Sakshi Malik, who won a bronze, and gymnast Dipa Karmakar was a message to the nation that "if women are given equal opportunities, they can conquer new heights of excellence".
