Amidst reports about the eroding base of Left parties in Kerala, CPI's state unit has launched an awareness campaign among cadres to make use of the potentials of the new generation media like Facebook, Twitter and so on.
CPI, which has 13 members in the state Assembly, has already started classes among its leaders and cadres to teach them about the possibilities of social media and also how they can make use of it to express and propagate the party's views.
"Social media has emerged as a powerful medium now a days. So, we are planning to tap its possibilities to strengthen the party base and propagate party views through it," Kanam told PTI.
A team of IT experts has been roped into take class among party members as part of the initiative, he said, adding, the cadres would be taught not only the possibilities of social media but also its drawbacks.

Classes would be expanded to sub-committee and ward levels in the coming days, Kanam, who became the Secretary of the party's Kerala unit earlier this year, said.
Interested party members would be roped in to attend classes at the grassroot level.
"The initiative has received good response from party members especially young cadets," he said.
