A 25-year-old doctor from Kerala, who miraculously survived under the debris of a six-storey hotel in earthquake-hit Kathmandu, has been admitted to the ICU of AIIMS Trauma Centre here.
Abin Suri, whose two doctor friends died in the quake in Nepal, was brought to Delhi this morning in an Air Indian Force plane.
According to doctors at AIIMS, Suri was admitted to the hospital at 6.30 AM today. He has sustained acute kidney injuries as he was pinned under the debris.
"He said that he lay under the debris for almost about three days before rescuers smashed through a concrete wall to rescue him. He has sustained acute kidney injuries and is on dialysis at present. His back muscles are injured and he has suffered thigh fractures. But he is stable and conscious and his vital parameters are functioning well," said a senior doctor at AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Suri's family members have also arrived at the hospital from Kozhikode in Kerala.
The bodies of his two friends -- Deepak Thomas from Kelakam in Kannur and Irshad from Kasaragod -- were airlifted to New Delhi this evening en route to their home in Kerala .
According to Army sources, the group of doctors from Kerala had gone trekking in Nepal last Monday.
