Kerala expects double digit growth in tourist arrivals in 2016

Kerala is expecting a double digit growth in tourist arrivals in the current calendar year and restricted sale of liquor is not adversely affecting the inflow of travellers in the coastal state, an official said today.
"We are expecting a double digit rise in the tourist footfalls in our state this calendar year," Kerala Tourism Department Deputy director Nandkumar K P told reporters here.
He said 1,24,65,571 domestic and 9,77,479 foreign holidayers visited Kerala in 2015. The official, however, did not provide estimated figures of sightseers for 2016.
To a query, Nandkumar said the liquor restriction policy has not hit the tourist influx in the state, known for beaches, hill stations and backwaters.

"No ban has been imposed on liquor sale in Kerala. Its sale has only been regulated due to social reasons," he added.
