In a letter to Sathasivam, who is a two-day visit here, Association Secretary S Nallasami pointed out that the Pandiyar-Punnampuzha rivers originate from Devala forests in Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu. The water flows North to go waste in the sea in Kozhikode via Nilambur in Kerala.
The scheme, conceived by these states, has been on hold since 1967, he said, adding that if it was implemented, Tamil Nadu can get 18 TMC of water and Kerala the much needed power to tide over their crisis.
Nallasami said the scheme was conceived by both states without any involvement of the Centre and once implemented, could become a model for future schemes, which would mutually benefit both states.
