A bill-- Kerala Devaswom Recruitment Board Bill, 2015 in this regard has been tabled in the state Assembly and is now before the subject committee.
As per the Bill, the autonomous Devaswom Recruitment Board will prepare select list of candidates for the appointment in various posts.
The Thiruvananthapuram-headquartered Board will have five nominated members, including a woman member a member belonging to SC or ST, it said.
There are four Devaswom Boards--(Travancore, Malabar Cochin and Guruvayur) and one Devaswom Managing Committee (Koodalmanickam) in the state.
Appointments to various posts under these Boards are at present governed by the provisions in the Travancore-Cochin Hindu Religious Institutions Act, 1950, Madras Hindu Religious Act and Charitable Endowment Act, 1951, Guruvayoor Devaswom Act, 1978 and Koodalmanickam Devaswom Act, 2005.
The Congress-led UDF government decided to set up an autonomous body for recruitment in the Boards based on the recommendations of Justice Paripoornan Commission, appointed by Kerala High Court in 2007 to enquire into the alleged irregularites in some appointments in the Travancore Devaswom Board.
