"We are committed to supporting existing businesses in the state to grow and we welcome new investments', he said in his inaugural address at the two-day TiECON, the Professional and Networking conference of entrepreneurs here.

Welcoming new investments in the state, he said, "Kerala is a changed place for investment with a government and people committed to environment friendly business."

He said he was, "personally available to anyone who needs my intervention in any legitimate matter anytime".

Chandy said despite Kerala having the lowest mandays lost due to labour issues in the whole of South India, the state was still perceived as being a difficult one to work in. It will have to work hard to change this negative perception.

Trade union leadership across parties in the state have matured over the years, Kerala labour was intelligent and highly productive and quality of life in Kerala was the best in the country. This is what today's Kerala offers to any investor in the state, he said.

The government was committed to showcase the state as the preferred destination for investment in South India, Chandy said, stressing the need to transform younger generation from being job seekers to job creators and that too within Kerala if the state had to emerge as a strong and vibrant economy.

"It requires a revolutionary change in our society. Our youth have to become more confident, parents and leaders of the society have to support youngsters to take risks and our society has to accept failures in businesses which do happen in a competitive world", he said.

Chandy said entrepreneurs can play the most important role in sending the right message of a changed Kerala to the investors in the country and abroad.

The government will support, handhold and provide speedy clearances to all proposals that are people and environment friendly, which contribute to Kerala's growth and complies with the law of the land, he said.

This would be done in the most transparent and timely manner, without taking any short-cuts on any of the critical issues such as environment and law, he added.
