Kerala-model development to be implemented in Assam: Minister

Kerala-model development projects would be implemented for advancement of the minorities, including Muslims in his state, Assam Cooperation and Border Areas Development Minister Siddeque Ahmed said today.
Initiatives to bring up knowledge institutions like in Kerala was under the active consideration of the Assam Government, he told reporters here.
Lack of education was one of the vital causes of poor socio-economic phenomenon of the minorities in Assam, Ahmed, who was here to visit the private Markaz educational institution run by a Muslim organisation, said.
The state government had identified the reasons for this lagging and was trying to solve those hurdles, he said.
'Under the Union Ministry of Minority Welfare and Prime minister's 15 point programme, the state government has started various activities concerned for the betterment of them', he said.
'The service bestowed by different charity organisations from Kerala in the refugee camps of Kokrajhar, Chirang under BTAD and Dubri District, is praise worthy', Ahmed said.
