"The Kerala government will take up with Tamil nadu the serious issue of not receiving our due share of water for Chittoorpuzha Irrigation project under PAP," Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said.
Some parts of Palakkad district are experiencing drought and non-availability of water under PAP would adversely affect the agriculture sector, he said replying to a submission moved by V Chenthamarakshan (CPI-M).
Water Resources Minister P J Joseph said as per PAP, Kerala has to get 1750 million cubic feet between Dec 16 2012 and January 31 2013. But Tamil Nadu had informed them it could provide only 750 million cubic feet due to depletion of water level in dams and failure of North-East monsoon, he said.
But Tamil Nadu can release the state's due share with the present level of water in reservoirs between this period, he said.
"I have already written a letter to Tamil Nadu, seeking steps to provide 1750 million units cubic feet water to Kerala," he added.
Joseph also refuted Tamil Nadu's contention that water level in dams in that state had come down after Kerala diverted water that has to flow to Aliyar from Parambikulam.

As per the Parambikulam-Aliyar project, Kerala is entitled to 7250 million unit cubic feet water in a Water year between July 1 to June 30. A Joint Water Regulatory Board of officials from Tamil Nadu and Kerala release it nder a 'fortnightly pattern'.
Tamil Nadu now provides water to Kerala upto Dec 15 as per the pattern agreed at the meeting of JWR in October last.
It was decided that the quantum of water to be supplied to Kerala between December 16 and January 31 at a later stage after considering the impact of the North-East monsoon.
But the north-east monsoon was a 'complete failure' and it was under these circumstances that Kerala asked Tamil Nadu to release the 1750 million units cubic feet water as per PPA, Joseph said.
