After anacondas, the city zoo here is all set to welcome a host of new animals, including blue bulls and barking deer, and birds to its enclosure.
As part of an animal exchange programme, the century-old zoo will get within three days five blue bulls, three barking deer, two albino black bucks, five painted storks, five white Ibises and two pairs of red jungle fowls from the National Zoological Garden at New Delhi.
"The animals and birds, safely loaded in two trucks, are on their way and expected to reach the city within three days," zoo director B Joseph told PTI.
He said the Thiruvananthapuram zoo had already handed over a pair of ostriches and golden pheasants, three bonnet macaques, two black swans, three brahminy kites and four brown fish owls to the Delhi zoo in return.
He said if everything goes as planned, the city zoo will get a white tiger later this month in exchange for a male jaguar.
The city zoo last week received seven green anacondas, six of them females and one male, from Sri Lanka.
