Rapper Kevin Gates has been sentenced to 180 days in jail on a battery charge for kicking a female fan during a 2015 performance.
The 30-year-old Paper Chasers star, real name Kevin Gilyard, was onstage at Rumor's Nite Club in Lakeland, Florida last year when audience member Miranda Dixon reportedly tugged at his shorts mid-performance.
In video footage of the incident, Gates appeared to strike the woman in her abdomen with his foot, and police subsequently filed a criminal complaint against him.
According to TMZ, a jury of six women took just two hours of deliberation before finding Gates guilty of battery and sentencing him to 180 days in a Polk County jail and one year probation.
His lawyer Jose Baez had previously asked for the case to be dismissed under Florida's Stand your Ground Law, which allows an individual to defend themselves if threatened.
