The KGS Group today informed the Kerala High Court that the Flagmast, Gopuram or any other structure of the Parthasarthy temple will not be touched, modified or displaced for the construction of the Rs 2000 crore proposed Aranmula airport project.
According to the KGS group, which is developing the airport, the Devaswom Ombdusman had 'misunderstood' the technical meaning of 'threshold displacement', which means 'displace starting point or runway'.
The company also gave an undertaking stating that no part of the temple or gold mast or gopuram would be altered in any manner.
The undertaking was given in an impleading petition filed by the group on suo motu proceedings initiated by the court on the basis of Devaswom ombudsman raising apprehension of causing damage to the temple.
The Devaswom administers the temples in the state.
The ombudsman had expressed apprehensions that the proposed project may affect the threshold and temple pole.
The project, proposed to be built in a 700 acre area in Aranmula in Pathanamthitta district,is facing stiff opposition from environmental activists and opposition parties, saying it would destroy many characteristics that qualify Aranmula as a heritage village by the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage.
