Khadi Commission officer convicted by CBI court in graft case
Press Trust of India Nagpur A designated CBI court convicted an Assistant Development Officer of the Khadi and Village Industries Corporation (KVIC) here today, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe in 2008.
Nagpur's Special Judge for CBI Cases V S Murkute convicted the accused Khadi and Village Industries Commission Division Office Assistant Development Officer Prakash V Chaudalwar, and sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment as well as a fine of Rs 2,000 for offences punishable under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, an official CBI release said here today.
The accused was also sentenced to undergo two years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 1,000 for offences punishable under Section 13 (2) read with Section 13 (1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, the release said.
The Nagpur unit of the CBI had registered a case against Chaudalwar on the basis of a complaint by an ayurvedic doctor Deepraj P Ilamkar of Lakhanai (Bhandara), alleging that he had demanded Rs 9,000 from him for assistance in getting a subsidy of Rs 4.5 lakh released from the KVIC under the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) to establish a rice mill in Bhandara, the release said.
Chaudalwar was caught red-handed by the CBI while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 8,000 from Ilamkar. After investigation, the CBI had filed its chargesheet on June 27, 2008, the release said.
CBI Public Prosecutor P S Agrwal had appeared on behalf of the prosecution under supervision of SP CBI, Nagpur, Sandeep Tamgadge, the CBI release said .
