It was followed by AZB & Partners, which handled transactions worth USD 15.37 billion, according to latest findings by global deal tracking firm Mergermarket.
Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (USD 13.14 billion), Kirkland and Ellis (USD 8.84 billion) and J Sagar Associates (USD 8.74 billion) also figured on the list of top five legal firms in terms of deal value during the first nine months of 2016.
However, AZB & Partners was listed numero uno for handling the most number of deals (43), one more than Khaitan & Co, for the period under review.
India Inc's merger and acquisition (M&A) activity reached a record level of USD 46 billion in January-September this year, up 36 per cent in value terms over the whole of 2015, as per Mergermarket data.
There were 278 transactions worth USD 46 billion in the first nine months of this year while in the whole of 2015, there were 419 deals worth USD 33.8 billion.
