Khalid Ibadullah appointed chief of Congress minority cell
Press Trust of India Kolkata In a bid to reach out to the minorities in West Bengal, the Congress today appointed WBPCC General Secretary Khalid Ibadullah as the chief of the party's minority cell in the state.
"Khalid Ibadullah from now on will act as the chief of the party's minority cell in West Bengal. We hope the party's minority wing will make a turnaround under his leadership," a senior state Congress leader said, adding that communication had come from party high command today.
Congress, weakened by regular desertions to ruling TMC and a resurgent BJP eating up the opposition space, is fast waning into a non-entity in Bengal politics leading to a chorus from within the party for an organisational revamp.
The voices of discontent have come to the fore after the party lost its deposit in the February 13 bypolls to Bongaon Lok Sabha and Krishnaganj Assembly seats, where it managed to get only a paltry 2.35 per cent and 2.41 per cent vote share respectively.
