Addressing a press conference here, Khanduri claimed that the transfer act was formed with an aim to remove corruption and manipulation in the interests of the employees and the people of the state.

"They (state government) should tell the people what wrong they found in the transfer act which forced them to cancel it and replace it with a new policy," Khanduri said, a day after Uttarakhand cabinet decided to cancel the transfer act and replace it with a new policy.

Khanduri also expressed his surprise over the fact that the act had also received tremendous support from the Congress MLAs and it was passed unanimously by the state assembly on September 29.

"I am surprised that the same Congress party now wants to repeal it," he said.

Former Chief Minister claimed that the government has taken the decision under the pressure of some vested interests and 95 per cent of government employees would suffer for only five per cent of their colleagues, who can manipulate their transfers by way of corruption.

Khanduri asked the government to bring the policy in the state assembly, the session of which is beginning from May 28 and discuss its merits and demerits on the floor of the house.

He said during its two-month rule, the Congress government has failed to perform on any front and is instead focusing on changing the good decisions taken by the previous BJP government.

In this regard, he said Lokayukta act is pending with the centre while the fate of citizen's charter, declaration of assets by ministers and bureaucrats is also not clear.

Stating that the Congress' attitude towards the state has always been step-motherly since its formation, the BJP leader said the decision of the state government to sell the power to outside agencies instead of its own UJVN limited would also cost dear to the consumers in the state.

Khanduri had lost the recent assembly election to Congress' SS Negi from Kotdwar.
