Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has approved the Haryana Road Safety Fund Rules, 2015, to ensure safe travel, proper enforcement of traffic laws and facilitate emergency assistance to accident victims.
The rules also aim at strengthening institutional arrangements, set up road safety information database, ensure safe road infrastructure, safer vehicles and drivers' safety, a spokesperson for the Transport Department said today.
He said Haryana Road Safety Fund has been set up to ensure implementation of the road safety measures. It would be used to implement schemes, projects and awareness programmes pertaining to road safety and related activities.
It would also be used for identifying accident-prone areas, taking corrective measures to ensure safe plying of vehicles, secure movement of travellers, providing rescue and post-accidental cares and for conducting studies and research on road safety.
The fund would be operated by a committee with the Haryana Chief Secretary as Chairman, Transport Commissioner as Member Secretary, and other eight members, the spokesperson said.
The committee would meet at least quarterly and the quorum for a sitting would be of four members, he said.
Detailing the powers of the committee, the spokesperson said it would be authorised to approve schemes of any amount within the available funds.
