Khazana ghazal festival to be held on July 27-28

"Khazana", the ghazal festival in aid of cancer and thalassmeia patients, will be held in the city on July 27 and 28.

Ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas who has been closely associated with the initiative said the event has enabled bone marrow transplant for 200 children in the last few years.

"In the last few years, the funds raised through the annual khazana concerts have enabled bone marrow transplant for 200 children," Udhas told PTI.

Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) and Parents' Association Thalassemic Unit Trust (PATUT), Mumbai, have been organising the annual fund raising event.

Udhas is the president of the PATUT.

The veteran singer saidaround 5 per cent of one lakh children screened for Thalasemia Minor disorder were found positive.

Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder in which the body makes an abnormal form of hemoglobin. Thalassemia minor is a less serious form of the disorder.

The noted singer said that the bone marrow treatment cures the child of the genetically-transmitted disorder.

He said "Khazana" also served as a platform for ghazal artists to showcase their talent to connoisseurs.

Speaking about the 2018 edition, Udhas said the theme of this year's festival would be "mohabbat", the different emotions of love.

He said upcoming ghazal singers will showcase their talent at the event.

The artist line up this year would be Anup Jalota, Talat Aziz, Rekha Bharadwaj, Richa Sharma, Sudeep Banerjee,a special act by Mame Khan and afusion curated by Kaushiki Chakravarty, Rakesh Chaurasia, Purbayan Chaterjee, Deepak Pandit and Ojas Adhiya.

Udhas said the proceeds of the July 27-28 event would be used towards continued care and rehabilitation of patients suffering from cancer and thallasemia.
