Maharashtra began their second innings at 131 for no loss but openers Swapnil Gugale (88) and Harshad Khadiwale (77) departed without adding much to their overnight totals.
Kedar Jadhav (25) also got a start but he also could not make it big but Khurana and Bawne made it a heavy day for the Gujarat bowlers by raising an unbeaten 192-run stand for the fourth wicket.
However, despite a bad day in field, Gujarat earned three points from the contest, courtesy their first innings lead.
