Kidnapped girl reunited with parents

The story of the seven-year-old girl's separation from family and her return had all the elements of a typical Bollywood movie.

Abandoned by her kidnapper, a whole village came to her aid and raised her. A villager asked his son to approach the police with a photograph of hers following which her parents were traced.

The girl was located in Zahidpur in Bhadoi on July 19 and brought to Delhi.

"The girl was immediately recognised by her parents when we took them to the village. They were absolutely delighted to get their daughter just before Ramzan and termed it a gift from God," Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), said.

The girl was kidnapped from Malaviya Nagar in September 2010. The photo of the girl was flashed on Doordarshan and advertisements were given but she could not be located.

Everything changed last Wednesday when Ubaidur Rehman contacted a beat constable with a photograph of a girl who was found in his village.

"Rehman was carrying a photograph of the girl in his mobile. He told us that his father had met his old friend Surender Nath Yadav, village head of Zahidpur, who told him about a girl who was left behind by someone in the market.
