The MACT awarded Rs 37,22,200 and Rs 11,79,000 to the parents of victims Santosh Kumar Tiwari and Mohammed Tanveer respectively and asked Shriram General Insurance Company Ltd, with which the offending vehicle was insured, to pay the sum to the two families.
"In view of the unrebutted testimony of the petitioners and documents available on record, it is prima facie proved that deceased Santosh Kumar Tiwari and Mohammed Tanveer died due to injuries suffered in the road accident caused due to rash and negligent driving of respondent number 1 (driver of offending vehicle)," MACT Presiding Officer Dinesh Bhatt said.
The accident took place on January 2 this year when both the victims were travelling in their car and when they reached Geeta Colony flyover in East Delhi, a rashly-driven vehicle hit their car causing fatal injuries to them.
27-year-old Tiwari and 24-year-old Tanveer were rushed to hospital where they succumbed to their injuries during the treatment.
Seeking the compensation, Tiwari's parents had told the MACT that their son was unmarried and was working with IBM, Gurgaon and was earning Rs 35,000 per month.
Tanveer's parents too told the court that their son was working as a driver and was earning Rs 15,000 a month.
Manoj Kumar, owner of the offending vehicle and its driver Dharambir Singh had denied that the accident took place due to their negligence and said they were falsely implicated in the case.
