The family members of a man, who died after being hit by a speeding car here last year, has been awarded a compensation of over Rs 30 lakh by a motor accident claims tribunal (MACT).
MACT Presiding Officer Dinesh Bhatt directed ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company, with which the car was insured, to pay a compensation of Rs 30.65 lakh to the kin of 36-year-old Sanjay Singh who died after his two-wheeler was hit by the car here on December 19 last year.
The tribunal relied on the testimony of a police official, who was an eye witness in the case and had said that the accident was caused due to the rash and negligent driving of the car's driver.
"In view of the unrebutted testimony of the petitioners and documents available on record, it is prima facie proved that Sanjay Singh died due to injuries suffered in the road traffic accident caused due to rash and negligent driving of respondent number one (driver of the car)," the tribunal said.
The family members of the deceased had moved the tribunal seeking compensation saying that on December 19 last year, Singh was travelling on his two wheeler near ISBT here and was hit by a car which was being driven in a negligent manner.
They said Singh had received grievous injuries after which he was rushed to a hospital but he succumbed to the injuries.
The police official, who was on duty at the spot, told the tribunal that the car was moving on the right side of the road and it changed its lane and hit another vehicle which hit Singh's two wheeler.
He said Singh had received grievous injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
