Vinod Kumar, who was with Bakkarwala and had opened fire at police in October last year when they were cornered, was apprehended from Ghabana area in UP's Aligarh by Delhi Police's Special Cell, Sanjeev Yadav, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), said.
Kumar, a resident of Aligarh who has a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, and Bakkarwala had managed to escape from the police net at ITO on October 2011 after firing at the police party. Bakkarwala was, however, arrested this January.
He is allegedly involved in 13 cases of robbery and carjacking in Delhi, UP and Haryana.
"After the arrest of Bakkarwala, Kumar was heading the gang. An input was received about his movements in Delhi-NCR and UP. It was ascertained that he was trying to re-organise his gang," Yadav said.
Kumar, a school dropout, entered the world of crime in 2003 when he along with his cousin Kaptan Singh allegedly tried to kill a person. He was booked under the provisions of Gangster Act in 2007.
"He came in contact with Bakkarwara and after his escape from jail, Bakkarwara went to Kumar who provided him shelter. Kumar then joined hands with Bakkarwala and committed several robbery and carjackings in Delhi and NCR," Yadav said.
