Kiran Mathuru played out an even par round to take lead on day one of the third leg of the Hero-RCGC Women's Professional Golf Championship, here today.
Hero Order of Merit leader Vani Kapoor is placed second after returning a card of 73 while Chandigarh golfer Amandeep Drall ended round one at third place at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club.
Kiran began her round on a cautious note, carding a solitary birdie on the fourth hole in the front nine, as opposed to two bogeys. She played a more controlled back nine with birdies on the 15th and 17th holes, and had just a single bogey on the 18th hole.
Vani had an inconsistent front nine, carding a bogey on the very first hole, but came back strongly to card three consecutive birdies on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th holes.
However, a double bogey on the 5th hole cost her dearly. She followed it with a birdie but had two more bogeys on the 7th and 9th holes. After an erratic front nine, she seemed to settle down and played an even par back nine.
Amandeep finished the day with a score of 2 over 74 after 18 holes to end round one at third place. She had birdies on the 9th and 15th holes, and bogeys on the 3rd and 10th holes. She also carded a double bogey on the 7th hole.
Sharmila Nicollet finished the day with a score of 3 over 75 to be placed fourth. She carded bogeys on the 3rd and 7th holes and a double bogey on the 9th hole. Her lone birdie came on the 13th hole.
Kolkata golfers Smriti Mehra and Neha Tripathi finished the round tied 5th with identical scores of 4 over 76. Delhi golfers Ankita Tiwana and Gauri Monga are tied 7th after finishing the day with a score of 5 over 77 after 18 holes.
