Kirloskar Oil Engines (KOEL) today said it is entering into farm machinery segment, where the company will introduce a range of products which will help in increasing the crop yield.
The Pune-based company will manufacture 'smarter farm machines' at its plant in Kolhapur, Southern Maharashtra.
"Kirloskar has been associated with the Indian farming community for many decades. Our diesel pump sets are known for durability.
"We are planning to launch smart farm mechanisation machine soon, which not only will cater to the mechanisation needs but also ensure that farming is economically viable," KOEL Vice-President (Strategy) and Head of Agri & Allied Business Antony Cherukara said in a release here.
Kirloskar has chalked out ambitious plans to introduce a range of farm mechanisation products in future, he said.
"Smarter machines, which require less investment, will not only save on labour costs but will also increase yield and profitability."
The company is setting up a new plant at Kagal, near Kolhapur, where production will begin from this month. The total capacity of the plant is 12,000 machines per annum on single shift basis.
Initially, the company will introduce the machines in Maharashtra and then roll them out across the country in a phased manner.
