From small 2 inch kites to those as big as 10 feet in length 47-year-old Jagmohan Kanojia has churned out many special kites for the occasion.
"I have been making kites for the past six weeks to fly them on the occasion of Independence Day. Most of my kites carry pictures of our great freedom fighters and national leaders. They also carry small messages that we should always remember the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters," says the gifted kite maker.
Kanojia's paper marvels features pictures of leaders and freedom fighters.
"This time I have also made a special glass kite of 3x2 feet. It is a showpiece and won't fly, but it has been beautifully decorated with pictures of all our Presidents till date including a big picture in the centre of Pranab Mukherjee, who recently became the country's new President. Below them are also pictures of Prime Ministers," he says.
Kanojia has fashioned kites depicting images of the tricolour and freedom fighters including leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, former Presidents Pratibha Patil and Rajendra Prasad, first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose, Rani Laxmibai, Balgangadhar Tilak and Chandershekhar Azad among others.
Kanojia, who has earned himself a name in the kite-making profession through his miniature and big kites, it all began as a hobby in early 1990s after watching a kite-flying competition on TV.
