KITE to pilot Hi-Tech Labs in 188 primary schools this month

Kerala is fast implementing the Hi-Tech school programme in all its schools in government and aided sector and Hi Tech labs will be set up in 188 primary schools by this month.
KIIFB has already approved Rs 493.50 crore for upgrading 45,000 classrooms to Hi-Tech and also to set-up IT Labs in 4775 schools, a government press release said.
"As part of expanding this programme to the upper primary and lower primary sections, which has a total of 9,448 government and aided schools, the piloting of Hi-Tech labs in 202 locations which include 188 schools and 14 DIETs would be completed by this month", said Prof C Raveendranath, Education Minister, said today.
The newly transformed Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), formerly IT@School Project,is spearheading this pilot implementation in the primary section.
The deployment of 1,588 laptops and 641 Multimedia projectors as part of the piloting is scheduled to be completed by Aug 26.
"As a pre-step for the hardware deployment for setting up Hi-Tech Labs in the pilot locations, we have completed the broadband connectivity, Kalipetti- e@vidya IT Textbooks, ICT trainings for teachers, Samagra Resource Portal, Digital Contents and selection of School IT Co-ordinators", said K Anvar Sadath, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of KITE.

A ratio has been fixed for hardware deployment in proportion to the number of students in each school, he said.
A monitoring system is being set-up in DIET in each district to effectively track the academic progress of ICT activities in the primary level.
Specific trainings and content deployment activities is planned in the LP&UP schools where the piloting is done.
In continuation to this, KITE would be submitting the Detailed Project Report to KIIFB for expanding the Hi-Tech Labs to 9,260 Primary and Upper Primary schools.
