"At a time when transgenders face a great deal of oppression, the Kochi Metro Rail has decided to be the change they wish to see in society, extending employment opportunities in housekeeping, crowd management and customer relations to the transgender community," Elias George, Managing Director of Kochi Metro Rail Limited said here.
The metro officials said the Ernakulam district mission of Kudumbasree is actively engaged in providing training for creating a group of women workforce for manning Kochi metro stations.
Kudumbasree is a poverty eradication project launched by the state in association with the Centre and Nabard.
Last year, Kerala government had unveiled its Transgender Policy -- a first of its kind -- envisaging ending the societal stigma towards the sexual minority group and ensure non-discriminatory treatment.
