Eastman Kodak Co. Says it's ending in-house production of one of the key components of camera film and cutting 61 jobs.
The Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester reports that Kodak plans to shut down its acetate base manufacturing operations next week. Light-sensitive chemicals are spread on the acetate base for photographic film.
Kodak spokesman Christopher Veronda told the newspaper the company has an inventory of acetate base that's expected to last years, and is looking at options for external supply beyond that.
Because of the discontinued acetate base work, Kodak filed a notice with the state Labor Department earlier this month indicating it would be laying off 61 workers by the end of August.
The move comes as Kodak is about to get out of the camera film business.
