India Test captain Virat Kohli has become the first cricketer to cross 5 million followers on social networking site, Twitter, surpassing iconic batsman Sachin Tendulkar.
Kohli (@imVkohli) now heads the list with a total base of 5.06 million fans, which is higher than Tendulkar's (@sachin_rt) 4.9 million fans.
After Kohli, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have touched 5 million and 3 million, respectively on Facebook.
Rohit ranks 7th and Shikhar ranks 10th in the most followed sports stars in India.
Jogesh Lulla, Director of New Media, CSE (a sister concern of Cornerstone Sport and Entertainment Pvt Ltd.) said: "It is a proud moment for the team at CSE to see the Facebook pages managed by us growing so rapidly.
"Each (Virat, Rohit and Shikhar) has seen a growth of 450% to 550% over the last year. We are now all eagerly waiting for Virat to reach the 20 million follower milestone on Facebook, which has been achieved by only 19 other sports stars globally," he added.
