Kolkata Police is planning to file charge sheet by mid-March in the Red Road hit-and-run case in which an Air Force official was killed by a speeding car during Republic Day parade rehearsal.
Quoting the Test Identification Parade (TIP) report where witnesses identified 24-year-old Sambia Sohrab as the person driving the Audi on the January 13 morning, a highly-placed source in Kolkata Police told PTI preparations are on to frame the charge sheet.
"The process has already been initiated and hopefully we will be able to produce the charge sheet by mid-March," the officer said.
"Two constables identified Johnny and Sanu alias Shahnawaz Khan (as present) in the second car (Skoda), while 14 others, including Air Force officials and civilians, identified Sambia as the driver of the Audi that hit the Air Force officer and fled," the officer said today.
An onduty traffic constable at the Kidderpore Road identified Sambia as driving the Audi alone, breaking one guard rail after crossing the South Gate before speeding into the Red Road area where the parade rehearsal was taking place.
Two other constables also confirmed the traffic cop's version that Sambia was alone in the brand new vehicle while Sonu and Johnny were in the other.

In fact, Kolkata Police would seek for police remand of the main accused Sambia, son of Mohammed Sohrab a former RJD MLA and stated to be a Trinamool Congress member now, and both Sanu and Johnny on February 12, when the trio (Sambia, Sanu and Johnny) would be produced at court, he said.
Earlier, Sambia had confessed during interrogation that he was in the driver's seat during the January 13 mishap.
Sonu and Johnny made claims that they were not travelling in the Audi, which was being driven by Sambia but were in a Skoda which Kolkata Police have seized.
The three arrested have been booked under IPC sections 120(B)(criminal conspiracy), 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 212 (harbouring offender) and 427 (mischief causing damage).
A look out notice was also issued by a city court for Mohammed Sohrab and his elder son Ambia Mohammed Sohrab, both absconding since the January 13 mishap in which an IAF officer was killed.
Last week, a city court issued a proclamation notice against Mohammed Sohrab.
