Kolkata Metro will increase its reach in the northern end of the city tomorrow with the opening of its new station at Noapara.
Deputy general manager of Metro Railway Protyush Ghosh said the new station would be the 24th one of Kolkata Metro and its largest so far with four platforms, three elevators and six escalators.
Initially trains will be available at an interval of 20 minutes from Noapara station, he said.
"Since this (Noapara station) will increase the city's connectivity with Barasat in North 24 Parganas, we expect that for those staying in the north it will become a hub station," Ghosh said.
Initially, 25 up and 25 down trains will operate between Dum Dum, its northernmost station so far, and Noapara. The first and the last Metro will leave Noapara at 8.04 am and 9.04 pm respectively and arrive there at 07.55 am and 20.49 pm respectively.
Minister of State for Railways Adhir Ranjan Choudhury will inaugurate the new metro station tomorrow.
Stretching on the north-south axis for more than 25 km from Dumdum to Kavi Subhash stations, the underground railway at present carries more than 6 lakh passengers daily.
