KoPT is also in the process of providing an additional 87 acres in the city for real estate development, he said.
Speaking at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) seminar on 'Sustainable Real Estate' here today, Kumar said KoPT has 4,000 acres of land in the city, 60 per cent of which is being used for various port-related activity.
"We intend to provide the land into parcels for real estate development, for which KoPT was started the e-tendering process for a portion of it," Kumar said.
"Our proposal is awaiting clearances from various sections of the ministry (read shipping ministry). Once we get the approval, we will put the land parcel on the block," he said.
West Bengal Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim said the industry should come forward for setting up warehouses and logistics hubs as online shopping is gaining momentum in the country.
This, he said, would generate employment in the state.
