The premises of the world famous 13th century Sun Temple at Konark in Odisha's Puri district was inundated with water following heavy rainfall in the district, an ASI official said.
Puri district received 127 mm of rainfall today, an official said.
"We are taking all steps to drain out water from the Sun temple premises. Motor pumps have been pressed into service to evacuate water from the premises," said Hemsagar Abhay Naik, the superintending archaeologist of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Bhubaneswar.
Water logging is a constant problem for the monument, an UNESCO world heritage site, Naik said.
"For better and upgraded drainage system, we have prepared a plan and sent it for approval of the Director General of ASI," he said.
