Kongu Forum meets CM, submits list of demands

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami has assured a delegation from seven western districts in the state, under the banner of Kongu Global Forum (KGF), that necessary action would be taken with the regard to expansion of the airport here.
Directors of KGF met the Chief Minister besides Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development S P Velumani in Chennai to discuss the developmental needs of their region during which airport expansion was given top priority, the Forum's convener Vanitha Mohan said in a release here today.
Water was another area of concern which has not only hampered farming operations but also impacted day-to-day life of its citizens and the delegation sought various steps to increase the water table which had dipped to alarming levels, she said.
The Chief Minister had given consent to convene a high-level meeting with the Ministers concerned as well as bureaucrats along with KGF members to discuss steps to put the region on the growth path.
The delegation also met Electricity and Prohibition Minister P Thangamani, Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan and Chief Secretary Girija Vaidhyanathan.
KGF is an entity formed for harnessing the collective energies of representatives from the districts of Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Karur and the Nilgiris and channelising it towards developmental activities of the region.
