KPLT area commander held after encounter

An area commander of Karbi Peoples' Liberation Tiger (KPLT) was arrested today following an encounter with a joint team of Army and Assam Police in Karbi Anglong district.
Acting on a tip off, the security team laid a trap and arrested KPLT's Dalmara area commander Welson Teran alias Mongbe from Diplumukh village in Rongbongwe block, a defence release said here.
Mongbe fired on the forces when challenged and ran towards a dense bamboo Jungle. The security forces cordoned off the area and arrested him after a fire fight that lasted for close to 20 minutes, it said.
The security men recovered a 7.65 mm pistol with four rounds along with some documents.

"This is the 17th KPLT terrorist arrested since the launch of massive crackdown code named "Op Wipeout" by the security forces on February 14," the release said.
