His appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge of the post and until his superannuation on June 30, 2017 or till further orders, an official release said.
The post of NDRF DG had fallen vacant on May 31 following retirement of P M Nair.
The appointment of Chaudhary, a 1979-batch Bihar cadre officer, comes at a time when NDRF personnel are engaged in rescue and relief operations in rain and flood-ravaged Uttarakhand.
