Special religious discourses, hymns and kathas were held in flower-decorated temples on the occasion of Krishna Janamashtami in the city today.
Tableaux, also called 'jhankis', depicting life and message of Lord Krishna, passed through several areas in the state, sources said, adding, women kept fast on the occasion.
'Baal-Gopal'(child Krishna) was placed in 'jhulas'(swings) which were ceremonially swayed by devotees.
People were seen visiting various temples in Jammu, also known as city of temples, since morning.
City markets wore a festive look with people purchasing items which would be eaten after observing fast during the day. Children were also celebrating by flying kites.
It may be recalled that various religious organisations and temple committees in Jammu yesterday took out several Jhankis and impressive Raghunath Rath Yatra of Lord Krishna.
