Senior journalist K S Tomar today took over as the chairman of Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC).
Ensuring equal opportunities to the people living in far flung areas of the state would be his priority besides giving a candidate friendly face to the Public Service Commission, he said.
Tomar(58), who is the Editor of Hindustan Times's Jaipur edition, was administered oath of office and secrecy by Governor Urmilla Singh in Raj Bhawan.
Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, his cabinet colleagues, MLAs, senior officers and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Immediately after assuming the charge, Tomar said a toll free helpline would be installed immediately to assist the candidates in getting all information.
"The Commission would also work towards offering an online monitoring system of all requisitions, departmental promotion committees and recruitment and promotion rules received by the Commission from the client departments," he said.
He said that appropriate recommendations would be sent to the government for introducing coaching in Aptitude Tests in Colleges and Universities on the analogy of NCC and NSS, if needed.
Tomar will have four years tenure as maximum age limit for Chairman and members of HPPSC is 62 years.
